Today was a very good day for our team: we met with Nini Palavandishvili. Nini needs no introduction, but, nevertheless, we would like to tell about her work that is directly linked to the activities of our Foundation. Nini is a designer and curator who has done much to preserve Georgia’s cultural heritage and, especially, for Georgian mosaics. She catalogued all the monumental and decorative mosaics of the so called “Soviet” period, which were created and are located in Georgia. She conducted a detailed study of all these works, identified the authors and architects, the exact dates of creation, described the technologies of how they were manufactured.
Nini wrote several books on Georgian mosaics and made a detailed map… For years, she traveled tirelessly throughout Georgia, collecting materials, taking photographs, getting to know the authors of the mosaics and their families, meeting with officials in the capital and other regions, and struggling to prevent the mosaics that were in very bad condition from being destroyed forever.
Nini’s work has rediscovered the Georgian mosaic, which is undoubtedly part of Georgia’s historical and cultural heritage, and has long been ignored. Our foundation also draws on information from Nini Palavandishvili’s books. We appreciate the invaluable contribution she has made to the restoration of our country’s cultural heritage and are proud of our friendship.
